On the morning of Tuesday, Februrary 14th, three police detectives from the Yarkon district came to the house of Maarav editor Ronen Eidelman. After they presented a court-issued search warrant and informed him that they were investigating the arson of the bulls on Rothschild Blvd. [of which, to his website, Eidelman posted anonymously obtained photographs], they turned his house upside down for about an hour, confiscated his home computers – even though according to the law, they need a separate warrant for that – his memory cards and his hard disk drives, and also a single disc of photographs from Cairo that had writing on it in Arabic. During the search, the detectives did not allow Eidelman to use the telephone, nor did they hesitate to express their complicated political Mishna: “The problem with this country is that there is too much democracy,” they explained.

At the end of the investigation at the police station, it was clarified to Eidelman that his computers will be returned once he gives the police the name of the photographer. Following the confiscation of the computers, it seems that the Maarav site will not run as regularly in the coming days, our apologies to our readers.

Ronen believes that the desecration of the bulls was a statement against capitalism, as the bulls were on display as part of a public celebration of the Israeli Stock Exchange.
